Once again I’ve taken another hiatus last month from the blog to spend a portion of my holiday in home sweet home Hawaii. It’s been over a year since I’ve been back and I’ll admit I was super homesick. I needed the two weeks of vacay for a little R&R due to my hectic school schedule with finals approaching at the time and working tirelessly at my new gig over at Opening Ceremony.
Man I was so spent this semester!!!! All I really needed was to spend some QT with my fam, grind amazing local food, soak in the beautiful Hawaiian sun and simply just get away for the holidays. For me, it’s important to visit home at least once a year to escape the “city that never sleeps”, because if you don’t, you don’t get any sleep at all! So if your need of keeping your sanity in NYC, then I suggest you take a vacay to Hawaii, but in the meantime you can experience it through my Instagram @Cool_Gene
Back to our regular scheduled programing……
Make sure you cross this destination off your list when visiting Paris. Jardin du Luxembourg is one of the oldest parks in France and was once land to royalty. It was designed in the formal French style with precisely planted rows of trees, trim hedges, immaculate lawns, grand fountains, ponds and benched-lined gravel pathways. Now isn’t this the perfect runway for myself and Janine?!?!
The park lawns were filled with students and residents of the Latin Quarters and of course the occasional visitors such as us, who dresses up to go to the park :)
If you know me, then you know I’m big on tailored activewear. This 3-button jersey cotton suit by Undercover x Uniqlo is crazy comfy, lightweight and most importantly it looks smoooooove!!! It also has useful pockets in all the right places and a marled finish which gives this suit some added puh~NASH! I’ve been a fan of both Jun Takahashi and Uniqlo and the pairing of the two makes perfect sense. Uncdercover’s high-end street style mixed with Uniqlo’s affordable and simplistic approach represents a unique collection of modern family swag.
Quick history lesson: The grand Palais du Luxembourg behind me here was built for Marie de’ Médicis, widow of Henri IV in 1627. During the Revolution it became a prison and since 1879, it resides as a seat of the French senate. But for now and just for now, it’s the backdrop for the man with the silver shoes!
Still feeling the effects of ACNE’s spring collection, this look was inspired by one of the outfits off the runway show. A mint dress, black shoes and a camel jacket was the exact outfit, but we replaced the jacket with a snakeskin cardigan and pops of red for some added punch to a cutesy dress.
After a long stroll through Luxembourg, we took a quick pit stop at the Notre-Dame cathedral. Double shaka’s!
Ever since I returned from lovely Pareeeeee I’ve been asked the same questions like: “How was Paris? Was that shit CRAY!?!?” or “Were you BALLIN SO HARD” or my favorite: “Were you going GORILLAZ!!!!” and so to answer everyone’s questions, “YES” we were obviously going GORILLAZ, If you escape what I’ve escaped you’d be in Paris getting f*cked up too!!!!! I really tried not to do a “Watch The Throne" reference, but were in "Paris", so I couldn’t resist lol….. Thanks Jay and Yeezy!!!
But anyway, call it round 2 or Paris 2.0 if you will, Janine and I have made our Paris trip for spring break a tradition now to celebrate the demise of winter and most importantly just to take a break from the hustle and bustle of New York City. We like to call it our home away from home away from home, don’t worry that’s not a typo, we have a lot places we like to call home. Although, If we could we’d live here in a heart beat, but until we do, we’ll just keep taking our annual vacays. Now what more can you ask for, Paris is the ultimate vacation spot, we literally just walked the streets of Paris all day listening to “Watch the Throne" soaking it all in, true story!! And of course we sipped on fine wine, buried ourselves in macaroons and shopped the best vintage designs til are feet bled. We love Pareeeee and you’ll love it too because for the next couple of weeks I’m posting everything PARIS!!!!
Last year Janine and I did the whole tourist thing. We practically hit up almost every tourist attraction and museum Paris had to offer. This time around we wanted to have a better balance of sites and local digs. Plus, we had 10 days opposed to the mere 5 days we had last time. Now we had all the time to shop, eat and just chill out and avoid most of the touristy sections of Pareeeee. But the Eiffel Tower is a must everytime we go, regardless of how crazy packed it gets around there and how many times I’ve seen it, the view never gets old.
There’s a fishing theme here! I like the contrast in color and texture this vintage fishing vest exudes.
My collection of Dr. Martens is starting to pile up, but this one is by far my favorite.
We really dig this color combo, it was inspired by ACNE’s Spring 2012 collection.
Didn’t I tell you there’s a fishing theme here. Janine’s in love with her new fish tail skirt from Zara.
Fabric combos are just as important as color combos. We like the balance of hard and soft like Janine’s faux leather corset mixed with the sheerness of her skirt.
The Seine River
It’s been 6 years since I’ve been on UK soil and it feels great to be back in the city of London. If it wasn’t for my 2 year tour in England and traveling all across Europe, I would have never been living in NYC doing my thang. It’s really an amazing city, the lifestyle, diverse cultures, nightlife and of course fashion, It was addicting and the resemblence between the two cities were uncanny and that’s why I’m in the Big Apple today.
So, before my annual trip to Paris for spring break, I made it a necessity to stop over in London for a day to retrace my old steps and visit a few of my best friends. The visit was long overdue, but we made it happen and I couldn’t be happier to see my old bredrins!! Plus, It was Janine’s first time visiting, so in a day, we toured all of London just for her. That includes stop-and-go sightseeing, shopping and lunch all in a bare 8 hours!
Jet lagged and deprived of sleep!! Didn’t matter cause I’m in London baby!!! And I got the beanie and the shades on to cover that travel ugly!!!!
