For Bumsuk Choi, General Ideas creative director; inspiration for the SS 2013 collection drew from the documentary titled "The Last Lumberjack" by Yu Guangyi. The film was about real-life lumberjack’s from a province in China who’s jobs were in jeopardy due to the up-rise of modern civilization. I thought the translation was spot on and it was evident with youthful updates on classics such as neon digital camo pieces, variations of mixed media, fresh takes on utilitarian details, hybrids of timeless outerwear pieces, quirky neck and hemlines and Choi’s signature color blocking and street styling that we all love.
But not only did I witness the juxtaposition of the old and new lumberjack, there were many cheeky collaborations in the accessory department that got me double taking. Including cool bags from Samsonite, rugged yet refined shoes with pops of neons by Moon, fun sneakers by Head and the hints of jewelry that brought the cool/fun/rugged lumberjack look together by Frica.
Can you spot me in the yellow KENZO hat?
