Equivalent to New York City’s “MOMA”, the avant-garde Centre Georges Pompidou is one of the world’s most extraordinary museums, one of the city’s most distinctive landmarks and one of it’s most visited attractions. This x-ray-like structure of steel and glass, striped by brightly colored pipes and snake-like escalators, looks as if the whole building was turned inside out. At the very top, there were beautiful panoramic views of the city of Paris and within the structure housed 50,000+ works of modern, American pop-art and contemporary art dating back as early as the 20th century.
I’ve been a big art museum buff ever since I took a class called “Art in New York” a couple summers ago at FIT. In a span of 8 weeks for summer school, I was able to visit almost every art museum in NYC, including everything on museum mile and a number of hidden gems throughout the city. It’s definitely a great source of inspiration and I’ll continue my journey from NYC and carry it over to the amazing museums in Paris.
During the week we were there, Pompidou had a great exhibit on Henri Matisse. His use of color revolutionized art and not only was he such an amazing painter, he was a great printmaker and sculptor as well.
Who says you can’t appreciate art with your shades on?
The views from the top floor were incredible!
I’m all about ease and comfort while still upholding my heavy dose of puh~NASH, that’s why I turn to my trusty sweat pants from Club Monaco. On a day where I’m constantly walking and gawking at every installation and painting, I have to be comfortable to outlast the long day, yet look effortlessly cool.
Last years birthday present finally being put to use. Comme des Garçons PLAY x Matt Groening.
Janine’s backdrop below is Starvinsky Fountain, one of the many great sights that surrounds Pompidou. The green fountain consists of a wacky assortment of sculptures, including a dragon, a treble clef, a rotund women, a spinning heart and a pair of red pouting lips that spits water. Plus, that huge art piece on the building back there is pretty awesome too.
It was gloomy and cold that day, but the views were still amazing! Hello there Eiffel!
One of my favorite exhibits.
View of Basilique du Sacré-Coeur.
